Saturday Night Feast

Post by Bandit »

I had to use up some of the last of my base gravy from the freezer so I decided to cook a few curries on a Saturday night a couple of weeks ago to cheer Mrs B up after a long day at work, dusted off the heating trays had an evening of cooking and below was the result

Rear - left to right, Lamb Rogan Josh, Pilau Rice, SB's Fruity Chicken Jalfrezi, Chicken Tikka Balti, Plain Naan Bread

Front - Mint Yogurt, Salad, Spicy Red Onion & Fudco Mini Pompadoms

There was a twist to this meal as I actually bought the Chicken Tikka Balti from a take-a-way which has produced many a good meal for us in the past.
After a few minutes of tasting a strange face was pulled by Mrs B when the CT Balti was sampled, "what the hell have you done to this" was the comment, I then confessed and I was informed never to buy a CT Balti again, she did wonder why it was not served it the normal Balti dish.

It was good to compare a take-a-way dish along side home cooked BIR style curries which leads me to believe 2 things once the technique is mastered and the recipes adjusted to the way you like your curries

1. Be proud of what you can achieve with the numerous recipes on the forum

2. Have confidence it what you can achieve with the recipes of the forum

Try it sometime slip in a take-a-way to see how you compare, all good fun

At least I ended up eating curries for a few days which I was happy with even the CT Balti which wasn't too bad to be honest

Cheers Bandit

Looks like a feast fit for a king (and queen). I like the idea of trying my favourite bought bir curry side by side with a homemade one, would be interesting.

Fantastic work bandit.

Tasty and balanced mixture. What wine have you got there that stood up to all those flavours?

Looks fantastic Bandit. When i started reading the “I bought this” bit, I thought you was going to say that you bought the naan.

Well done you, and glad Mrs. B preferred the home cooked stuff

Yes, it truly is amazing what we can achieve at home thanks to this forum.

Your wife chose well. I can now count two happy ladies in the world. :D
They've been cooking on Blue Peter, now they're sampling the dishes,
I don't normally like tomatoes John but this is delicious.

Hi all,

Thanks for the kind comments, wasn’t sure how it would turn out but glad it came out with a preference for the home cooked versions
