Re: Westy's Chicken Pathia
Come on squibo, surely you could give us a bit more of a review than that!
Re: Westy's Chicken Pathia
Yeah I probably could
It was very nice the problem was I think my mango chutney and my (hastily made from dried block the night before) Tamarind paste.
My current chutney is a bit strong, it overpowered a bit and the Tamarind was to mild, so I ended up with hot, too sweet and not very sour
I will try again soon with a different brand MC and double the Tamarind.

Re: Westy's Chicken Pathia
That's more like it Squibo
The mango chutney that I used ( and hence mentioned ) was not particularly sweet and that would of course affect the finished dish . I've never tried reconstituting tamarind so I have no idea about that at all

A curry can never be ‘too garlicky’ or ‘too hot’ .....
Re: Westy's Chicken Pathia
Tried this bad boy last night and it didn't disappoint! I must admit.. I only used 1tsp Chilli Powder as i think 1tbsp would have made this way too hot for my wife and I. The flavour is fantastic and really does resemble Pathia's that i have tried in the past.
Well done Westy! Thanks for sharing this one.
And now... some photos
And of course... not forgetting our neighbours!

Re: Westy's Chicken Pathia
Thank you for trying Rich and reporting back with some great photos too
I'm very pleased you enjoyed it - the chilli content wouldn't affect the flavour of the dish unduly so I'm happy you tailored it to suit yourselves - worth remembering though that this dish usually appears in the 'hot' section of any menu. Looking at your neighbour's portion there , I'm sure he'll be happy with that .... you always make your neighbour's curry look sooo nice , I wish my neighbour would drop by a container like that every so often

Gauderbock - try looking in the larger Billa stores and that type of place , in the Asian / exotic section . If I can buy it here , I'm convinced it could be bought anywhere - you do have to have to be prepared to have a good rummage though

No tamarind action in Billa or any other place I've tried unfortunately... However, I don't want to threadjack, so...

Re: Westy's Chicken Pathia
roganrich,
Hate to be a pedant, but in the final photo you have sliced chicken versus cubed in the first. Which did you prefer? Only reason I am asking is because I am not convinced "cubed" chicken is always the best way to cook ....

Re: Westy's Chicken Pathia
I'd be inclined to use more lemon (or lime) juice, or vinegar, if I couldn't get some form of tamarind. Whatever is readily available and sour (or, maybe, mango powder/amchoor).

Re: Westy's Chicken Pathia
Tried it agian with the same mango chutney and double tamarind as my last post and it was much improved.
Even remembered to take a picture this time.

That looks very appetising Squibo.

Re: March 2016 - Westy's Chicken Pathia
Thanks to Greybeard, Squibo and roganrich for all having a punt at this month's curry. I will have to play catch up with this one, as soon as I find some time to make another batch of base gravy...!
