Waterdiddys Boat Biryani

Post by Waterdiddy »

Hey all!

I had some pre-cooked Chicken and some pre-ccoked basmati left, so I thought to put them together in an ad-hoc Biryani...

added a coupla getting-old lemons, some nice 'shrooms and away we go ;)

Worked pretty well, I jammed it all in the pressure cooker and left it on a very low gas for 30 minutes, low pressure (it never got up to pressure anyway, but warmed through nicely and thoroughly)

Seemed to come out ok, but I wouldn't recommend the method to others, it's not exactly a classic, just a 'jam-it-in-and-hope'

Just finished the second helping, mmmmm!

The picture does not give an acurate view of the rice, so it's hard to judge. How did it taste?

btw, you know BIR's don't normally do byriani in the PC right? :)

Good effort, though!

LOL - it was as stated, a throw it together to be honest, Goncalo! It tasted pretty good to be fair and I am pretty sure BIR do NOT do them in the PC, you're quite right there, m8

I like to show what can be done with the minimum of stuff and kit, as the boat is ideal for it. I hope it shows one doesn't need overkill, though I will, at some points, be 'pushing the boat out' on some dishes, once I get my spice hoard setup as I would like it. It is taking a long time, due to weather and infrequent shopping trips.

Bests,

On a second note, I feel like I am coming across as a bit of a spaz by mentioning the PC thing. It's not like you need to making everything to BIR style, but I just wanted to point that out which may not have been very obvious... glad it tasted nice pete! :)

Far from it dude - this is a BIR forum after all. I like to explore the basics of things, as well as the finer aspects. Living on the boat not only facilitates this, sometimes it demands it! It is a VERY spartan existence and I wanted to show people what can be done with little in the way of equipment, space and sometimes - ingredients.

Ok, not truly in the spirit of the forum, in that this doesn't try to replicate that BIR taste, but it does illustrate certain points I think.

I shall be doing more complex things too in the not-too-distant future, when I have had the chance to stock up on a few things at the local asian supermarkets and halal butchers and my ordered equipment finally arrives, via the inlaws. I hope to do the forum proud then.

I will probably still do the quick meals though, as they are very enjoyable, as was this one.

So no, Goncalo - carry on as you are pal, I like input, I dont see any comment as negative, as it is motivated by a spirit of members who want each other to do better and improve our skills.

Bests and thanks, M8

Pete
