Post by steveriggo »

Thought I would share a few pics from the Curry BBQ we had this weekend. Catering for aprox 60 friends and family.

Cheers Dragonfire. it was a bit of work to put together but it was worth it. We did this for the first time last year for my sisters 30th birthday. That day went really well so we decided to make it an annual event. Each year is a learning curve so I'm sure next years will be better than this year.

We had a number of curry's on the go, all cooked fresh. Chicken tikka in both the tandoor and the rotisserie:

Had kebabs with blades tikka thigh meat and also managed to get a doner kebab from a local chip shop supplier.

The currys were the star of the show without a doubt and the most raved about was the Ceylon.

I owe a big thanks to my friend Andy (the guy with the pepper moustache) for all his help and is the guy who introduced me to BIR.

Thanks mickyp. We were cooking solidly from 12.00 noon until after 9pm. Needless to say we were pretty tired by the end.

Wow! Quite a feat, well done! I love all of the utensils you used (especially those black warming pots). Are they yours or did you hire them?

Any photos of the curries?

Which recipes did you use, please?

Thanks rsaha. Appreciate that.

Cheers Rusty. The Ceylon was the most popular. For cooking on mass, our only tactic was to use a bigger pan such as the two Kadai's in the photo. There were lots of things that we would have liked to have cooked but we tried to keep it simple as we still had to cook up burgers etc. We did kebabs with both doner and chicken tikka but next time we will leave that out and concentrate on the currys.

Cheers RShome123. I've seen your set up so not sure what I can teach you

Thanks CA. The black warming pots are soup kettles/warmers. They are usually about £60-£70 a go. I had the one for years and recently picked up another one. They come in different makes such as genware and buffalo but they are essentailly the same. I wish we took more photos but when it started the time flew as we were so so busy. The currys we did were mainly from C2Go recipes that had been modified a bit.

Hi Willyeckerslike, yes there was a lot of time spent setting up and then taking away (not completed yet  ) but it was worth it. A lot of graft but the feedback was excellent which makes it worthwhile.

Thanks BI. It's a lot of work but we both had a great time doing it and the reactions to the food made it worthwhile. When you cook BIR at home for the same people they can become a bit spoilt so it's nice to reach a wider audience.

I wish we took more photos
Me too, especially of the curries (rather than the shiny pots and labels...which all look very splendid, for sure!)!

But good job, anyway....

Hi All
I'm the guy with the chilli moustache !

It was a really great event, Steve and I both worked our socks off to be fair, the best bit of it all was watching the faces of everyone watching us cook, and when they were eating it, that was the best bit of the whole event !
All of the curries apart from the Ceylon was BIR inspired, slightly modified and tweaked versions of C2GO, the Ceylon was traditional recipe from scratch.
