Hi BI,
Agree about the forum's logo.
Just it is not simple & bold enough to stand out clearly on a letter-head or as "breast pocket" logo on a T-shirt.
Could look very cool as a large T-shirt design with a more contrasting font colour. The "battered flag" appears to be very "in"

Just my opinion.

Not too sure how you (we) would use this logo, Eric? Selling T-shirts? Selling something else? If so, to what end? :hmmm:

As Alc pointed out, it would help with branding and promotion.

You can instantly recognise the sign for McDonald's, anything vegetarian, vegan, bio,biodegradable,..any sport, ... any pastime,... a French or Italian restaurant, even an Indian restaurant,......just about anything...... - all from very basic logos or signs

There does not appear to be anything equivalent for BIR

What you do with the sign/logo is up to you, but lets get a recognisable sign for our passion.

Nice designs, but Eric, forgive me if I missed the point somewhere. But where exactly is this logo going to be used, by whom and why? Or is it just a "fun thead" ?

Hi JalfreziT et al,

Initially for fun - but with potential for more, depending on the motivation of members.
I wanted something to put on cards beside my dishes when I cook for parties to indicate clearly the name of the dish and what type (e.g. Indian or BIR) it is.

If you notice on many reviews of "BIR" restaurants (or even books), (Indian?) visitors give them cr*p reviews as the meals don't taste like the Indian food they are used to. We need clear(er) "branding" of BIR - not only on my cards, but on menus in general (especially for restaurants that supply both Indian and BIR dishes) and even on BIR restaurants which often appear to the unaware as "Indian".
There is a major vacuum out there in this regard and vacuums dont last long in nature. Someone will fill it, why not us?

And yes, I'd probably get myself some Tshirt made with a cool logo (Alc's is getting there)

As the forum is into Charity work with their e-book, they can stay within their present comfort zone and, for example, put some of their best designs on Zazzle or whatever for sale. The designer gets a cut of the selling price, I believe, and the forum would get publicity and could give the money to charity - or use it to fund training evenings, etc, etc, - some proactive "outreach".

One could of course go further, especially once one has a readily recognisable "brand"'. One of the untapped major strengths of the forum is the wide variety of skills members have which could be put to use for some aspect of the "cause", if we were all (even a few) sufficiently motivated. We have people from all walks of life, what a potentially mega team! Look at what CA and a few others have already achieved!
Another major strength is that we are international, unlike any UK curry-related group - as far as I can see.

Loads of potential projects for us largely middle-aged men to take on.
"Old age hath yet his honour and his toil;
Death closes all: but something ere the end,
Some work of noble note, may yet be done" Ulysses

OK, lets start with a fun design competition (which Sir Alc is now leading), and then the possibility of some charity Tshirts?
Eric

Hi Alc,
I dont have your skills.
I suggest simplifying the crown as it is very intricate and, with its shaddow, looks too cluttered.

Either a very simple crown .. or a flaming Karahi silhouette.
The karahi has the advantage of conveying visually what BIR is about.

Anyone else got some design ideas?

Agree with that although my own lack of artistic skill makes me feel guilty to say it

Could also tweak the text. I would guess most people don't have a clue what BIR means. Maybe add some explanatory text, which can always be removed in the future, once people get to know the logo.

"Indian food prepared in British style"

"Inspired by India, prepared in Britain"

"Gifted by the Empire"

"Indian food, in a British way"

"That restaurant taste, recreated at home"
