Chicken Balti

Post by Natterjak »

A couple of pics of the chicken Balti delivered from a good local takeaway (http://monihartandoori.co.uk/index.html). Very tasty curry with plenty of sauce and chunky onions, peppers and tomato included.

"Don't burn the spices" is the most dangerous truism of all - because it's incomplete. It should be "Don't burn the spices but do cook them!"

Looks pretty good NJ.

Again, pretty oily and coagulated (the coriander looks a little worse for the wear).

How did you find that it tasted compared to your own efforts? Any thoughts on what qualified this as a "balti"?

Thanks for sharing! 8-)

Well it was a perfectly nice curry but nothing about it was spectacular. Fairly spicy without being hot, so I had the impression there was plenty of mix powder and maybe Balti paste but not much chilli. Plenty of peppers and tomatoes provided a fairly fresh taste.

Versus my home cooked curries, hard to compare but I probably prefer most of my own dishes. I mean you'd expect that given I've refined my cooking to my own tastes (which should be a advantage of cooking for yourself after all). The shop bought Balti was certainly a larger portion with plenty of meat good tasty flavours. Nothing you'd be disappointed to receive as a takeaway.

As for what the defining characteristics of the Balti are, I'm not sure I have this nailed. Others doubtless know more as it's not a curry I often order.
