Kashmiri Masala Paste.

Pataks do one.

I made it using that recipe.

It was good, but not as good as I expected.

Bought a 2,2 kg jar of Pataks about a year ago. Still got about 1.5 kg left. Forgot i had it until now

Found my transcript of the recipe.

Dated May 2014

Is it OK to post it here?

Give it a try. Put it in your base.

Or try the Pataks ?

How do you know this, Charlie?
Hi Alchey, clarifying further.

Chris introduced "the stuff we shouldn't know about" in the base gravy video. No details are given though. From memory, he promises the recipe will be in the "e-book".

A couple of months later he produced his Kasmiri Masala Paste recipe, introducing it as "the stuff we shouldn't know about".

So they appear to be the same.
Charlie.

Hi Charlie

Chris also said that the owner at the restaurant "unfortunately" used Pataks, rather than making this recipe. I seriously doubt whether this was the "magic" that Chris introduced into the base gravy in his video.

I agree entirely, BI.

He says he made it at the restaurant the previous night.

Someone might have shown him how otherwise he could have made it at home easily.
Charlie.

You are probably right Alchey.

Which is why I still have 1.5 kg in the garage.

This thread is just a waste of peoples time and isn't helpful or constructive to members of the forum. What is the point in only giving part of a recipe and keeping the bit that apparently makes it taste like a true bir a secret.

I agree. I watched this video a few nights ago and feel like I just had 30 mins of my life taken away. There are many recipes on this site by far more reputable authors which I will use, and safe to say I will never cook a recipe written by the ebook king.

I thought the purpose of this forum was to help each other to achieve their goal at cooking bir style curries. Not keeping secrets back which isn't helpful on a forum. Forums are about sharing knowledge and helping each other.

It's a good point, so maybe we should remove this thread, as it's very unhelpful for our members?

I guess, since it is an incomplete recipe, we could either make a note that effect in the opening post and/or move it to the appropriate chat (or video) section of the forum?

Good idea CA. I think the chat section is more appropriate as this thread basically turned into a speculative discussion about this 'magic' ingredient rather than the recipe/base gravy itself.

What has happened to this Chris chap anyway?
Is there an ebook? He promised?
He isn't on this forum anymore and he hasn't made a youtube video for two years?
We will never know the 'magic ingredient'?
