I decided to mix this up a bit and added around double the garlic and ginger and a little more of the spices. The result is interesting. It's very tasty indeed. But it might be a bit too much for a base. I might need to add more tomato and onion, or perhaps just water it down.

Thoughts?

Hi EC. You could try making a curry with it but leave out the additional G&G and mix powder. That should compensate if you feel you've overdone things.

It's a great base but I would definitely water it down too. References to consistency in discussion above.

Seafret yes, I definitely found I needed a fair bit more water than the recipe first suggested. Almost three times to be honest!

I don't know which base I prefer - this or Corey's . They're both really good. This one is obviously more simple and possibly better for the more tomatoe based curries (which I tend to favour anyway)

I'd love to try Adey's but it looks like an awful lot of work! Maybe I'll try it when I do a much larger batch so it's worth the effort!

Suggest you try making it exactly as specified, at least initially, EC, then adapt it from there. Otherwise, you're off at a tangent (and probably on a wild goose chase) from the outset.

I have been reading through this thread and I think I'm convinced this gravy base will be a great replacement to the Curry 2 Go one, which I find has to much going on and want a more subtle gravy base. Off to get me some tomatoes and give this a blast..I will my results here

I've not tried this - only just found - but it looks the bee's knees ( or the D's Bs) - so simple!
I would be tempted to remove tho tomato skins by running it through a mouli. I wonder what the
reasoning is behind not skimming, when Kris Dhillon specifically advocates it...

Many Thanks; can't wait to try!
