Re: Chicken Tikka Achari
Great looking recipe there. Have been looking for a good one for Achari. Previous recipe I have used tends to be a little unbalanced with only one type of pickle. Mixed pickle (presumably Pataks?) should make a more rounded flavour.
On an unrelated subject, the national grid are disabling my gas meter as I speak. While removing skirting board I nicked an old lead gas pipe (that should not have been there). Good job I have a Patia in the fridge ready to heat up, as my hob is gas.

Re: Chicken Tikka Achari
The mixed pickle i used was from a jar of "Mothers mixed pickle" I was lucky really to have found it here - so when found - i use - lovely! The thing is taste the mixed pickle some are saltier than others. That is why there is NO inclusion of salt in the recipe. There was enough in the pickle.
Now i have the jar there will be many more Achari's to come is a great curry. ( if you like salty sour sweet and hot)
best, Rich

Very good looking dish, your usual standard rich! How do you rate?
I've seen this pickle on my local asian store several times, but never tried it. Shopping list updated! this bir fare comes out quite expensive at the end of the day

I am the unbearable scorcher of tikkas!

Re: Chicken Tikka Achari
goncalo I rate this very highly mate - Ive no idea how much pickles are back in blighty - I think this here worked out to about 1.90 squid - not cheap here.
I like it I was thinking of a Chikken Tikka Naga Achari but didn't have the naga
I love the taste of the pickle in the curry - Ive made this before using cane sugar instead of mango pickle and that too was very nice.
To be really honest its a very easy curry to make - the mango and mixed pickle already made just throw some in.
best, Rich

October 2015 - Chicken Tikka Achari form Curry Nights
I have been chosen for this months Curry Club dish, now i chose this dish because of the simplicity of the ingredients, nothing that anybody can't get hold of.
Anyway enjoy cooking this dish, i have made this a fare few times and still love it to this day.

Bonsoir Uncle F,
Great choice. Looking forward to trying this dish. Bit of an issue finding the correct mixed pickle, here in France, but will improvise and keep you posted! Are you an advocate of taking a 'quantity' of the mixed pickle and chopping it before adding it to the dish?

Sooner than you think...
What can I say. Umptuous. This little gem has been under the radar for too long. Thanks for suggesting it UncleFrank, and thanks to currynights (no longer on the forum sadly).
I urge everyone to give it a go.
Here's a video of me making it (full length, unplugged, unpolished, unwell). What can I say. Umptuous. This little gem has been under the radar for too long. Thanks for suggesting it UncleFrank, and thanks to currynights (no longer on the forum sadly).

I'm going to give it a go with this one. Nice, although heavy on the lime.

EDIT; Sorry, just realised it's the same as rsh is using!

Re: Month 4 Chicken Tikka Achari form Curry Nights
Bonjour,
I have just made this dish, and am very pleased with the result. Nice choice unclefrank!
The Ahmed pickle comes with large lumps which I chopped quite finely to allow it to better integrate with the sauce. My (Pataks) Mango Chutney was also the lumpy variety. Gave it the same treatment.
The dish was made using Blade's Tikka and Fusion Base. The recipe doesn't call for any salt. My pickle was fairly salty, but I still ended up adding about one third teaspoon of salt to season it to my own taste.
I liked the contrast between the salty/sour pickle, and the sweetness of the mango. Quite a complex flavour for what is essentially a fairly straightforward recipe. Having said that, not such a strong flavour that you can't taste the tikka.
All in all, a winner in my book. Would make it again.
