Re: CA's Chicken Tikka Masala Phal
I have just finished cooking this, although I tweaked it a little bit, less sugar and salt, it tastes lovely
Have been trying to upload a pic but it is saying it is too big!! Will have to see if I can reduce it!

Re: CA's Chicken Tikka Masala Phal
Made this the other day, i had no coconut milk powder, i put a small piece of coconut block in substitute (i do now, as i ordered some off amazon) and can honestly say it had me jumping for joy!!!
Love the heat level and the BIR taste, for me, it hits the spot. Many thanks for sharing the recipe.

Re: CA's Chicken Tikka Masala Phal
Glad that you enjoyed it, Paul, it's one of my favourites. I made Chicken Tikka Masala (for my wife), Chicken Tikka Masala Madras (for me and my wife) and Chicken Tikka Masala Phal (for me!) just the other day (for the freezer)

November 2015 - Chicken Tikka Masala Phaal by CA
I've been nominated to name the Curry Club dish to try for this month (Oct 2015).
I'm suggesting CA's Chicken Tikka Masala Phal
Having tried it in the past, it makes an interesting and tasty change from the norm.

Re: Month 5 - Chicken Tikka Masala Phaal
Looking forward to trying this recipe. An observation though........
If four of the ingredients are 'optional', two are 'or to taste', and another is 'as required', then how many permutations of this recipe do we have?

Never mind big boy pants, I'll be putting a pair in the freezer
I will hopefully give it a try next weekend, but I might wimp out on the chilli powder and just say I used it all

For assessment purposes (and as when making a recipe for the first time), I reckon it would be advisable to make the recipe using the specified quantities MBC (i.e. ignoring the "optional" and "to taste").MBC wrote:If four of the ingredients are 'optional', two are 'or to taste', and another is 'as required', then how many permutations of this recipe do we have?

I will be making this dish on location this Saturday, from the film studio know as rshome123. There is a rumour rshome123 will be there in person, if so I will get an autograph and a selfie with him

Just a small point of interest, how do you pronounce Phall, " Per-harll " or I have heard it "Farll"
Many years ago I went into my favourite TA, I'd probably had too many sniffs of the barmaids apron, I was with a couple of friends & we went up th the hatch to order. Came my turn, "Yes Sir " said the guy, " Chicken Phall please " I said. It then became like a scene from the old westerns, when the hero enters the saloon, the piano stops playing, & it goes very quiet. The conversation stopped, I noticed a couple of staff in the kitcken had stopped what they were doing & looked up.
" Have you had Phall before Sir ? " asked the waiter, " er no, I usually have Vindaloo " I mumbled.
" Oooh, much, much hotter than Vindaloo Sir, you can if you like ... " There was a pause,
" I'll have Chicken Vindaloo please " The conversations started up again & the kitchen staff, went back to work.
Some time later I did actually order a Phall, really lovely flavour, but he was right, much, much hotter than Vindaloo.

Re: Month 5 - Chicken Tikka Masala Phaal
Had a bit of a curry night last night, not had much time of late with one thing and another.
I enjoyed this which surprised me as I don't normally eat curries over a Vindaloo level of heat. Everyone who tried it liked it but then the heat kicked in and they didn't like it anymore

Re: Month 5 - Chicken Tikka Masala Phaal
I made this last weekend at rshome123's Curry Kitchen (it's actually just a film set, cleverly made to look like a kitchen in Warrington). Very nice it was too. Got away with the heat levels as used Kashmiri chilli powder which was quite mild. Sorry about the poor presentation!

Re: Month 5 - Chicken Tikka Masala Phaal
It was a tasty curry. Have to say Alchy, that for my personal taste, extra hot chilli powder would have been better than Kashmiri.
The oil we scooped from the top of this curry was used in subsequent curries. Seasoned oil... it's the way to go!

Re: Month 5 - Chicken Tikka Masala Phaal
With a dish as hot as that, I hope the film set had a toilet close by.
That would just go straight through me. But then its a matter of taste !

Re: Month 5 - Chicken Tikka Masala Phaal
Can you please highlight any other deviations that you made to my recipe, please, Alchy (and Willy)? Judging by the colour, I suspect there must have been quite a few?

I believe I followed it religiously, with no intention to make any deviations.

Re: Month 5 - Chicken Tikka Masala Phaal
I had no coconut powder so used coconut cream which would make it slightly lighter in colour. That is the only change I made. I used original base and mix powder.
