June 2016 - TikkaTom's Chicken Tawa

Post by TikkaTom »

(This recipe can be found in the recipe section here - Admin)

This is the closest I have been able to get to recreating this unique dish from my local. A fragrant, rich, tangy tomatoey curry that needs to be served sizzling!

That looks super, TT, was the tawa heated in the oven or on the ring? Love the idea of keeping the toms separate so they add more texture.
The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result.

Thanks GB. The tawa is heated on the hob. At my TA they cook the whole thing in the tawa and it gives an immense taste, but my tawa is too small and flat. The tinned plum tomatoes also give a unique taste compared to puree.

RS it's actually a Nandos pan! Got it as an Xmas present with a few bottles of hot sauce! It's cast iron and works great for tandoori sizzlers.

Oh wow! I am picturing this being brought to me in the restaurant in my head, other diners' heads turning, as it trails its wonderful aroma. Excellent TT.

I think they should rather stick to using the tawa, as the receptacle, seafret!

I use "King of Spice" brand Kashmiri Basaar, although I'm sure any decent spice mix could work.

I made this last night, and very nice it was too

For me, it was a bit too tomatoey ( is that a word ? ) so next time I'll maybe go half of the tomato sauce and also throw in another couple of chillies.

As it was, it's still an 8/10 for me, the wife was at least 9/10.

I must also say, that the portions were very large, so I've the best part of a TA foil dish for tonight.

I suppose it is described as tomatoey (yes, it is a word!) in the recipe intro, so you get what you see on the tin. Looking forward to seeing photos of the additional portion you had left over Mr. E.

It does indeed Alchy. The tomato flavour I suppose could also depend on the tinned brand used, I had Cirio Plum. A different brand may well give a completely different flavour.

It's the first time I've used as much base gravy too, that was certainly more to my liking. I like somewhere to dip my naan
