July 2015 - Chicken Tikka Basanti, by Uncle Frank
(This recipe can be found in the recipe section here - Admin)
Just done another search and found a recipe using Taz base and method.
So i can't take any credit for this dish. I didn't really have a lot of fresh stuff in so this was perfect for the ingredients i already had.
Onion/Chilli puree is half an onion and two bullet chillies pureed.

July 2015 - Chicken Tikka Basanti, by Uncle Frank
The recipe to try this month is Uncle Frank's Chicken Tikka Basanti, a delicious looking dish that makes me want to lick the screen of my iPad! Ok, I appreciate it wasn't his creation, but he was kind enough to find and share it!
Please give this dish a try and look to feedback on how you got on by 16th August.
If Uncle Frank has any tips of pointers on this recipe, then we are all ears

Certainly an interesting one, could UF give us any pointers on the ratio etc. of the onion/chilli puree ?
Re: Month 1 - Chicken Tikka Basanti, by Uncle Frank
I think its mentioned in the notes.
"Notes
Onion/Chilli puree is half an onion and two bullet chillies pureed."

Looks great. I assume the Methi is leaves not powder? Also, any advice on how to make the onion/chilli puree? Ive never tried that before.

Are you doing a veggie version, Dan?
Re: Month 1 - Chicken Tikka Basanti, by Uncle Frank
I'll more than likely do the original with chicken/chicken tikka and a veggie version too....

Managed to give this a try tonight! First impressions were that the sauce was incredibly thick and awesome looking! Unfortunately the taste just was not for me. Far too tomatoey (6tbsp of paste seemed a lot) and also a bit too fragrant (as a result of the tandoori masala and pickle combination). I think with some tweaking of the quantities I could turn this into a curry I would like. Was certainly interesting to try a different cooking style to my norm.

Looks good, even if it wasn't to your taste.
I wonder whether the Tomato Paste ingredient should be clarified by Uncle (didn't I sound Indian just then). Is it supposed to be 6 TBSP Tomato Puree (as in the double concentrated variety that most of us are used to), or a diluted version.
If the tomato paste is lessened, I wonder if the tandoori masala and pickle will be ok, having had the harshness of excess tomato removed.

Well done for going in first TT and taking one for the team! As a reward you can select next month recipe, if you want!
As above, hopefully UF can help clarify the issue on the tomato paste.

Cheers Alchemist!
RS, I think if the tomato content was halved and the pickle content was halved then we could be onto something good Lets let UF clarify.

Hi all sorry about late reply.
The tomato puree s diluted, whatever size tin/jar of tom puree i use, i always add double amount of water.
Has for the pickle, what pickle are you using, i used Pataks mixed pickle.
Methi is the dried leaves sort.
Tikkathon there's 1 tsp tandoori masala to 400ml of base, that's 0.25 tsp per 100ml of base, i doubt whether that is what is giving you the fragrant taste, what type of pickle are you using?
