Thanks for clarifying UF, so it's 2 parts water (4 TBSP) to 1 part Tomato Puree (2 TBSP) ?

More importantly, how do you define a TBSP volume... rounded, level or other ? (No comments about rounded TBSP of Water pls)

Also think that 1 TBSP (if level) is not excessive. I use 1.5 TBSP (level) in Achari.

So 4 tbsps water and 2tbsps concentrated tomato puree? That would sound about right to me.
unclefrank wrote: Tikkathon there's 1 tsp tandoori masala to 400ml of base, that's 0.25 tsp per 100ml of base, i doubt whether that is what is giving you the fragrant taste, what type of pickle are you using?
I used Tesco spicy Lime pickle and took out the big chunks. Possibly not the best choice as it is a little pungent!

Ouch, that Lime pickle can be very bitter.

Pataks Brinjal pickle is a mild one, with lots of flavour.

Above recipe edited to reflect the fact that the tomato paste is in fact a diluted tomato puree mix, following clarification from UF.

I read it that UF dilutes 2 Tbsp of tomato paste/puree with 4 Tbsp of water (i.e. not 50:50), Alchy? So isn't it 2 Tbsp of tomato paste/puree diluted with 4 Tbsp of water? :hmmm:

Nice job Tabs. I think after the feedback so far I will go carefully on the amount of mixed pickle I add.

Like others have said the pickle left a definite taste in the final dish, not an unpleasant one, just not the sort of thing I would normally want a big plate of, would be nice as part of a thali as it certainly has a unique taste.

My deviations from the recipie were:

Patacks Mango Pickle
Random red chilli in place of the bullet chillies
rfr style Daag base

All because thats what I had to hand, i tried to get as close as I could.

sounds like it has hints of an Achari about it? Given the inclusion of the pickle. Looks interesting and one I'd try to compare to the achari recipe I use.

id probably quite like this, as i'm a fan of achari, which has some similar ingredients.

I think given my experience with the pataks pickles, a fairly small tablespoon of lime pickle would suit my tastes in this dish.

I picked up some Patak's aubergine pickle this week, absolutely delicious it is, sweet with a little heat to it, looking forward to finally attempting this dish next week.

So I took my leftover Basanti which went wrong and mixed it with some leftover Chana Dhal which also went wrong, blasted them in the microwave and made my first FrankenCurry! Sorry for butchering your recipe uncle Frank but it was actually amazing!

My turn to try this dish today. After previous feedback in this thread I opted for 2 tsp Aubergine Pickle and 1 tsp mixed pickle, to avoid it being too tart. I really enjoyed it, very different to other curries I have made and satisfying to eat. I would give this 8.5/10. Would I make it again? Definitely.

It was made with Littlechilis mixed powder and Dan Sak's SSS base. Used my 7.5kw burner and ali pan as well. I even videoed it, so once it has uploaded I will share this delight with you!
