That looks lovely Alchemist, great photos. Out of interest did you add any colouring to make it that red?
I think the deadline for this months currys club is this weekend - hope a few more people give it a go!

Yes, some colouring in my tandoori masala mix, giving it a [un]healthy glow!

As promised here is the video of me making this outside on my burner. Battling with both the summer breeze and a neighbour murdering some sort of brass instrument or maybe a farmyard animal!!!

Very well done Alchy, I thought the background " music " created the right ambience !
I hope you didn't get any splashes of curry on those shorts, you might start a new fashion amongst curry cooks !

Cheers Pauly. Funnily enough the shorts ended up in the bin, but that was due to them being holier than the pope at Sunday mass than curry splashes!

Good vid Alchy. Did wonder at first whether you'd actually turned the gas on.
I cooked it today too. It was quite interesting. The pickle and the tandoori masala gave a slightly different flavour from the mainstream, which is sometimes a good thing.
Used level tsp measurements. I added 0.5 tsp salt (instead of 1 tsp). Used Natco Brinjal Pickle (0.5 TBSP) and Achmed Mixed Pickle (1 TBSP), which was about right for the balance of flavours.
Will probably make it again, but I think it can be improved with something extra.

Nice job, glad you liked it. It is certainly different to many other curries. I think perhaps something sweet might improve it, like mango chutney?

Sweet enough for me, although the spices in mango chutney may help boost things. I'm thinking Mr Naga chilli pickle, and/or Worcestershire sauce.
Alchy... what brand of Tandoori Masala did you use ? I was on Rajah this time, but yours looked ultra red. Did you add extra red food colouring ?

It's CAs recipe, which has optional food colouring in, which I obviously opted to include. Might leave it out next time, as all curries can end up looking the same!

Ah understand now.. I don't think any commercial brand Tandoori Masala will produce that much redness.

I rather like the vibrant colour that you've produced, Alchy, looks good!
PS: It was 1 teaspoon (rather than 1 tablespoon) of tandoori masala that you added was it?

Ah that explains it! The ebook says 1 Tbsp of food colouring! I think I need to have a word quality control

No, no, no, I mean did you add 1 tsp or 1 tbsp of tandoori masala in this recipe?
The e-Book is correct, but you can add as much (or as little) food colouring as you like to the tandoori masala.

Just a few days left for this months curry club...great participation so far from our members. Anyone else planning of having a try?
Re: Month 1 - Chicken Tikka Basanti, by Uncle Frank
well as this just sounds like a slightly more complex Chicken Tikka Achari, i'll probably give this a try on Tuesday
Re: Month 1 - Chicken Tikka Basanti, by Uncle Frank
Decided to give this a go lastnight. Have to say it was not to my taste at all. I used mango chutney after looking at some of the replies as I thought it might add a bit of sweetness to the dish but all I ended up with was a curry that reminded me of the sour sweets you get when your a kid haha great post though Franks just not my taste

Thanks for giving it a try Jason. I think you do need some type of pickle for it to really work, the aubergine one I used had a nice sweetness to it.
