November 2016 - steveparadox's Aloo Chaat
I am honoured to have been asked to choose this months Curry Club recipe (November 2016).
I note that there have been many fine recipes over the past 12 months and the majority of them are chicken curries of one form or another. I feel that it is time that we focus on a different main ingredient and to this end I have chosen the humble spud in the form of Stev Paradox's Aloo Chat.
Most of the ingredients are ones that members are likely to already have but one important ingredient that must not be left out is the chaat masala powder. This has a very distinctive taste as it contains amchoor (dried mango), sulphurous black salt and asafoetida. It is worth buying as it also goes well with crispy okra and other vegetable dishes."

250g of charlotte potatoes would be about right according to how I prepare it.

Would it not be more appropriate to use one of my images in this thread - I note the TABS version, which is the image above, has cauliflower in it!?!
Also, I would stress the importance of cucumber in this dish!
cheers.

Steve, many slices of cucumber roughly? You actually cook the cucumber for a few minutes, sounds different??

Those dishes look on the money
Tikka Tom, I'd say around 6 slices of cucumber which I would then half. I have also recently tried slicing the cucumber then instead of halving each slice, cut them into 4 strips, as I had it like that in a restaurant not long ago. But generally i slice it then halve the slices.

Wow wow and wow, Steve you have done well with this recipe! The wife and myself absolutely loved this dish. The Chaat Masala brings a lovely tangyness and the cucumber (which I didn't think would work) finishes it off with a lovely taste and texture. I dont ever remember ordering this dish in a restaurant before but the moment I bit into it I had instant dejavu - I think I must have tried it in my youth at some point! This is going to be on our regular curry list now. I really recommend members give this one a try!
