What do you like to drink AFTER a curry?

Postby ScotchBonnet » Tue Mar 21, 2017 7:24 pm

There's plenty of opinion as to what to drink with your curry (link) but once the last morsel of naan has swiped the last bit of gravy off the plate, do members have a preference for an after-curry tipple (alcoholic or otherwise)?

Tonight I cooked chicken pathia with a couple of teaspoonfuls of Kasmiri chilli for heat, lots of sauce and with naan but no rice. Afterwards I found that a room-temperature, straight double of Lamb's Navy Rum was just the ticket - sweet, dark and only mildly spiced. It complemented the flavours and afterburn of the pathia beautifully.

Ice cold lager of any description as long as it's above 4.5% abv!

That'll do me! Try to cool the chillies down!:

Impressive feat, a double on a Tuesday evening, SB!

Normally during a weekend curry I've moved onto wine and will stick with that until the evening's drinking is done.

Occasionally though a cup of tea, no milk, no sugar, is what's needed after a curry.

Bailey's on the rocks is always nice and nostalgic as it's what i used to have at the end of a ruby when first going for curries in my teens.

Our local used to give you a complimentary liquor after your meal, it was so nice I asked what went in it : Equal quantities of Tia Maria, Baileys & Cream, it really does settle your stomach after a curry & is delicious.

The only true elixir strong enough to attack the aggressive nature and throat scouring action of the mighty chili. Actually it doesn't work.

Had at curry house in Glasgow - equal parts brandy and Benedictine in a glass warmed up by placing a brandy glass obliquely across another glass which was filled with hot water. Sugar, herbs and alcohol quickly sooth a scorched palate.

I know this is going to sound weird but I think there is nothing better than having coke with and after your curry. The bloatness that one feel sometimes after a hell of a good meal is kind of "fixed" (for a lack of a better term) after having a glass of coke. Am I the only drinking coke with his curry?

A very nice Indian Pale Ale complements a curry perfectly. Very versatile as you can drink it before, during and after a curry.

Either cheap lager or something with a bit more flavour, like a French brandy (Bardinet has been our staple for some years, an equal to many "branded" cognacs out there, but much more affordable. Anyone not believing, try a blind taste test against some cognacs, and be surprised :) ).
They've been cooking on Blue Peter, now they're sampling the dishes,
I don't normally like tomatoes John but this is delicious.
