Ultimate Test - Passed!

Post by blodwyn »

Having spent the last couple of weeks checking out and trying the recipes in the forum and the eBook, I decided to go for the ultimate (for us) test.

The background is that both my sons were introduced to curry at a fairly young age, with Chicken Tikka Masala becoming their go-to dish. They became fairly picky about which restaurant they would eat at, based on the quality of their CTM. Both were in their young teens when we moved to the USA, and neither have had a decent CTM for the last nearly 20 years, both of them being in their 30's now. In fact that's probably their biggest downside about moving away from the UK. So I decided to try the CTM from the eBook and see what they thought of it. Not a quick dish to prepare given the overnight marinading, but I wasn't going to rush it, so I followed the instructions to the letter.

I don't think I'll ever forget the look on their faces when they tasted it. It was like they were transported 5000 miles and 20 years back in time. Both declared it was exactly how they remembered it, and we spent the rest of the evening reminiscing about all the good times we had when they were young. It turned out to be a special evening for us, thanks (bizarrely) to a Chicken Tikka Masala recipe from you guys.

Thanks a million
b.

Great work it's exiting when you cook or smell something that reminds you of sitting in a Indian restaurant

GreyBeard.. I fully get you... Memory is a secret ingredient, never to be rediscored (or at least not as it used to be. Wagon wheels are smaller than they seemed to be).

A heart-warming anecdote for sure Blodwyn - nice one

A lovely story which has made me a bit emotional.
I live in Spain and my boys (31 and 28) live back in the UK so I don't get to see them very often and I miss them intensely.
I wish I was cooking them a curry right now

While we are talking about "back in the day", I have often wondered when we talk about the curries of the 70's and 80's and that very distinctive taste that no longer seems to be there if I have found the answer?

It would be nice to do a poll of how many of us smoked in those days and how many of us have given up?

Just a thought?

I really love reading about family meals, they are always something special in our house too, always remembering those no longer with us and discussing the meals they used to put on for family, happy days.
No one knows more than all of us.
